Victims of violence supported in Syria

A year after the protests against president Bashar al-Assad started, the situation in Syria is still characterized by violence. More than 8,000 people have been killed and humanitarian conditions are grim.

Dorcas will provide help to families, orphans and elderly in eight Syrian cities, including Homs and Deraa, where violence is rife. In addition, assistance will be given to families who have fled to neighbouring countries. More than 230,000 people have already fled to escape from the violence, of whom 30,000 to neighbouring countries as Libanon and Turkey.

Humanitarian aid is needed, but it is hard to reach the victims. Access to the violated areas is constrained for foreign humanitarian organizations and the regime tries to prevent people from fleeing the area. Therefore, Dorcas channels its aid through a local partner with a network of eight churches in Syria.
